What we do

Excavation Contractor

Excavation is the foundation work that everything else sits on. Dig the hole wrong — too shallow, too wide, wrong slope, wrong spot — and every dollar you spend after that is a dollar spent on a problem. Ward Excavation has been digging foundations, trenching utilities, and shaping raw ground in southeastern North Carolina since 2001, and the reason we are still doing it twenty-five years later is that the holes hold up.

Land Clearing

A piece of ground covered in trees, stumps, and brush is not a building site. It is a piece of ground that needs to become a building site — and how it gets cleared determines whether the construction that follows goes smoothly or turns into a fight with the land. Ward Excavation has cleared residential lots, agricultural tracts, and commercial parcels across southeastern North Carolina since 2001.

Forestry Mulching

A drum mulcher drives into standing brush and small timber and comes out the other side leaving chipped organic material on the ground instead of bare dirt. No burn piles. No debris trucks. No exposed topsoil waiting to wash away in the next rain. That is forestry mulching, and it is one of the most requested services Ward Excavation runs across southeastern North Carolina.

Demolition Services

When a structure has reached the end of its useful life — a house that is not worth repairing, a barn that is collapsing, a mobile home that needs to come off the lot, a concrete slab from a building that is already gone — somebody has to take it apart, load the debris, haul it off, and leave the ground ready for whatever comes next. That is demolition work, and Ward Excavation has been handling it across southeastern North Carolina since 2001.

Grading and Excavation

Grading and Excavation

Most of the problems people call us to fix on an existing property are grading problems. Water pooling against a foundation, a driveway that washes out every spring, a yard that stays soggy for days after a rain — all of those trace back to ground that slopes the wrong direction or does not slope enough. Ward Excavation has been shaping ground in southeastern North Carolina since 2001, and grading work is what keeps us busiest across the 33 counties we serve.

Site Work and Pad Building

Before a builder pours a footing or a framer sets a sill plate, somebody has to turn a raw piece of land into a construction-ready site. That somebody is the site work contractor, and the quality of what they deliver determines whether the building that follows sits straight, drains clean, and stays put. Ward Excavation has run site work for residential and commercial projects across southeastern North Carolina since 2001.

Ditching and Drainage

Ditching and Drainage

Water does not care about property lines, construction schedules, or how much money the driveway cost. If the ground does not move it away, it stays — and standing water on a property is the start of every expensive problem a property owner does not want: foundation damage, driveway washout, septic failure, crop loss, and erosion that gets worse with every storm. Ward Excavation has been fixing drainage problems across southeastern North Carolina since 2001, and drainage work is among the most common jobs we run in every county we serve.

Hauling Services

Hauling Services

Every excavation job produces dirt that has to go somewhere. Every land clearing job produces brush and timber debris. Every demolition job produces loads of mixed material that need to reach a disposal or recycling facility. Hauling is the connective tissue that links Ward Excavation’s other services to the sites that supply material and the facilities that receive it.

Tree and Stump Removal

Customers call asking for tree removal and mean one of three different things. Some have a standing tree that needs to come down — it is in the way of construction, it is dead and leaning toward the house, or it is blocking a driveway extension. Some have a stump in the yard from a tree that was cut years ago and they want it gone. And some have both — a tree to fell and a stump to grind — but they are calling it all "tree removal" because the distinction does not matter to them. It matters to us because the equipment and the approach are different.

Pond and Dam Building

Property owners who want a pond on their land are usually thinking about the finished product — the water, the fish, the view from the house. The work that gets them there is earthwork, and the engineering that makes the pond hold water through summer droughts and survive spring floods without washing out is the same kind of earthwork Ward Excavation has been doing since 2001. Pond and dam construction is one of our original services and one of the most technically demanding.

Driveway Services and Road Maintenance

Driveways take more daily wear than any other piece of earthwork on a residential or farm property. Every vehicle that enters and leaves compacts the center, sheds water to the edges, and grinds the surface material down. Over time the crown flattens, potholes form, culverts silt in, and the driveway starts holding water instead of shedding it. That is when property owners call us.

Paving Services

The question is not whether to surface a driveway — it is which surface fits the property, the traffic, and the budget. Ward Excavation handles asphalt paving, chip-seal installation, and gravel driveway construction across our 33-county service area. We also resurface and patch existing pavement that has cracked, sunken, or separated from its base.
